Chint Solar Europe, a subsidiary of Hangzhou-based Chint Group, and London-headquartered Voltis have established a joint venture to develop a portfolio of over 15 renewable energy and storage projects totalling 5 gigawatts in the United Kingdom.
With all necessary land rights secured, the portfolio will deliver a mix of hybrid projects combining utility-scale solar, battery energy storage system ( BESS ), and wind.
By combining Voltis’ extensive experience in originating and developing projects across the UK and Chint Solar’s expertise in engineering, procurement and engineering ( EPC ) as well as financing, the partnership aims to be a major contributor to meeting the targets set out under the UK government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan ( CP30 ).
Through its partnership with Voltis, Chint Solar is making its first steps into the UK market. The European developer of sustainable energy projects has already completed more than 30 projects in the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, and Portugal, totalling 1GW ( peak ).
Alexa Capital acted as exclusive financial adviser to Voltis in this transaction. Ashurst and Eversheds Sutherland acted as legal advisers to Voltis and Chint, respectively.
“By combining Chint’s expertise and strengths with Voltis’ track record in solar, wind, and battery storage, we aim at developing multi-technology assets that deliver a stable renewable and reliable energy output to high-demand offtaker industries and the UK as a whole,“ says Mark van Rij, Chint Solar’s UK country manager.
Voltis co-founder Noah Hitchcox adds: “By joining forces with Chint Solar, we are strengthening our ability to realize projects that will accelerate growth in the renewable energy market.”
